Valero clerk leads police to robbery suspect

SAN ANTONIO –

San Antonio police said a convenience store clerk spotted a robbery suspect on the street ten days after the crime, and pointed him out for officers. The suspect was identified as 28-year-old Carlos Tellez.

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that the clerk was on duty the morning of Nov. 20 when a man walked into the Valero store in the 3000 block of Fredericksburg Road and robbed her of her cell phone.

The affidavit stated that the man attempted to steal cash from the register, but the clerk refused to cooperate. He then took the cell phone before running off, the affidavit stated.

On Nov. 30, the clerk called police again, saying that she was driving down the street when she saw the robber walking down Fredericksburg Road.

She followed the man to a nearby apartment complex, then pointed him out after officers arrived, the affidavit stated.

Police said the clerk was able to identify Tellez and even described scars he had on his face, the affidavit stated. Tellez was arrested on a charge of robbery.
