More than 100 children at St. PJ’s Children’s Home were joined by several San Antonio Spurs players Sunday to celebrate the sixth annual Basso Christmas Carnival.
The yearly holiday event benefits the more than 100 children who call St. PJ’s home.
Matt Bonner, Patty Mills, Jeff Ayres and Tiago Splitter signed autographs and posed for pictures with the children.
“It means a lot to take time out of our day, sign autographs and take pictures with these kids,” said Mills. “It’s something that they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.”
“It’s a chance to take their minds off of some of the negative stuff going on in their lives,” said Ayres. “We’re happy to do it.”
Kids got the chance to play a variety of interactive games and were treated to food and music from special guest Sebastien De La Cruz and his Mariachi Troop.
The event’s namesake, Cory Basso, group vice president of marketing and advertising for H-E-B, is not only known for raising tens of thousands of dollars for charities throughout San Antonio, but also bringing smiles to the faces of needy children.
Two years ago Basso and H-E-B donated an indoor movie theater to the children’s home, and this year he announced the donation of an outdoor theater.
